HC poser to Govt on doctors' plea

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI MAY 29. Justice P. Sathasivam, vacation judge, today asked the Government if it was possible for the Directorate of Medical Education to furnish photocopies of answer sheets and key answers to doctors who alleged largescale irregularities in the written examination for postgraduate medical degree courses.

When the judge stated that it was the practice in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, the Special Government Pleader (Education) replied that the prospectus containing rules and regulations did not provide for such a facility.

He also sought more time to get instructions on the issue from the authorities concerned. Mr. Justice Sathasivam then posted the matter for June 10.

Scores of doctors, who had appeared for the April 24 written examinations for PG medical courses, moved the High Court alleging `largescale discrepancies, computation errors' and `lack of transparency' in the evaluation process.

Admitting the petitions on May 13, Justice D. Murugesan stayed the counselling for the courses scheduled to start on May 19.
