Indian Jaycees meet in Mangalore from Oct. 30

By Our Staff Correspondent

MANGALORE MAY 29. The 48th national convention of the Indian Jaycees will be held here over three days from October 30.

Lokesh Pergade, Director of the convention, told presspersons here on Thursday that nearly 5,000 delegates were expected to attend the meet to be hosted by Zone XV of Indian Jaycees. The zone comprises the revenue districts of Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, and Kodagu.

Mr. Pergade said the Jaycees would invite some foreigners as observers to the convention, which would be held at Urva Church Grounds.

The visit of foreign observers would create awareness about the tourism potential of the coastal districts, he added.

Besides some Union and State ministers, noted cinema artistes would be invited to the convention.

Nineteen committees had been formed to arrange the convention. A.V. Vamana Kumar, national President of the Indian Jaycees, said 10 Indian outstanding young achievers would be felicitated on the occasion.

He said the seminars in the convention would be held on the lines of Parliament sessions.

The aim of the Jaycee movement was to create better citizens by providing the youth opportunities in training, management, community service, and public relations.

Purandar Rai, Secretary of the convention committee, Mohan Das Prabhu, finance in-charge, John R. D'Silva, President of the zone, and Venkatesh Baliga, publicity in-charge, were present.
