Drive to promote education in Kannada launched

BANGALORE MAY 29. A drive to promote Kannada involving door-to-door campaign has been launched by the Akhila Karnataka Chaluvali Kendra Samiti.

"It is important to educate children in their mother-tongue. Only students who have studied in Kannada will get jobs in Karnataka," said G. Narayana Kumar, leader of the samiti.

The samiti today took out a rally from Adichunchangiri Math, Vijayanagar, and government schools including Kempegowda Vidya Samsthe and Jaya Kannada Primary School participated in it. Narayana Kumar and Soumyanatha Swamiji of Adichunchangiri Math inaugurated the rally.

The Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, B.K. Chandrashekar, addressing the rally, promised his support to the cause. "Every child should study in his or her mother-tongue," Prof. Chandrashekar said.

Besides campaigning for the cause of Kannada, the samiti is also fighting for the right to education for children.

The President of the Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha, Vatal Nagaraj, and the President of Kannada Vedike, K. Prabhakar Reddy, were present.
