Making a presentation on "Usaid initiatives" at a workshop on "Challenges and approaches to implementing enterprise-wide energy efficiency" organised by the Greater Mysore Chambers of Industry (GMCI) here, Dr. Sarkar said the goals of energy networks were to encourage company-wide participation, and identify low payback projects and implement them. Projects undertaken had to have a payback under two years. The best practices programme, he said, involved energy supply (provide adequate and reliable energy at the lowest cost); energy tracking (metering, monitoring, etc.); systems improvement (boilers, distribution systems etc); technology; process management (benchmarking); and reporting. The workshop has been initiated by Energy Wise India (EWI), a public-private partnership to promote energy efficiency in India's industrial and commercial sectors. A project of Usaid, EWI addresses the full cycle of challenges facing the adoption of energy efficiency strategies in industrial and commercial sectors, focussing on performance, investment, and technology. The EWI is developing tools and strategies that allow companies to identify energy conservation opportunities - from utility management and waste heat recovery to process improvements.
