One of the gangsters suffered an injury in his leg after being hit by a bullet. According to a complaint lodged with Harapanahalli police, the incident took place at around 9.30 a.m. Receiving information that a gang of "korachas" from Yellapur near Harapanahalli were running a racket of exchanging "gold biscuits" for small sums, Mr. Belagere went there along with his informant to get details about the gang. Mr. Belagere and his informant were asked to come to the fields behind A.D.B. College in Harapanahalli by the gangsters, who agreed to exchange gold biscuits with them. "After interacting with the gang, which included a woman, I was convinced that they were cheats. When we were about to leave, they attacked me and snatched my gold chain and mobile phone. I opened fire at the gang with my licensed revolver," Mr. Belagere told The Hindu. Mr. Belagere and his informant escaped unhurt. Harapanahalli police have registered a case. While sources said that the incident took place during the early hours and Mr. Belagere was robbed of Rs. 30,000, there was no mention of it in the complaint filed with the police.
