He came to Ganesh Medicals on Anantpur Road, and told its owner, Prasanna Kumar, that he had come to collect the electricity bill. When Mr. Kumar expressed surprise at this, he said on-the-spot collection of bills had been introduced and took out the receipt book. When Mr. Kumar was about to issue a cheque for the bill amount, Manjunath said there was a five per cent discount if the bill was paid in cash. Mr. Kumar immediately contacted the officials of the power utility over phone, and sought to know when the discount was announced. The officials, who were also in for a surprise, immediately came to the shop and found that Manjunath was trying to dupe Mr. Kumar. A complaint was lodged with the police who took him to custody. The receipt book and Rs. 11,000 in cash was seized from him. The Superintendent of Police, Hemant Nimbalkar, appealed to the people not to fall prey to such cheats and inform police about them.
