S.N. college Principal retires today

KOLLAM May 30. The Principal of the SN College here, K. Sasikumar, is retiring from service tomorrow after 34 years of teaching at the various SN Colleges in the State. After joining as lecturer at the Nattika SN College in 1969, Prof. Sasikumar was appointed Principal of the Alathur SN College in 1992.

He had also served as Principal at Chembazhanthy, Punalur and SN Women's College, Kollam as Principal before taking over as the Principal of the SN College here in February 2000. It was during a tension ridden atmosphere created by the SFI strike that Prof. Sasikumar entered the college as Principal.

He had made several valuable contributions towards the progress of the college on various fronts and the prime among them was that it was during his tenure as Principal that the college had earned the NAAC recognition. Moreover, the National Service Society unit of the college under him had won the University level award for two consecutive years.

He was also a member of the Kerala University Senate, the Curriculum Committee of the Kerala Government and the inspection council of NAAC. It was during his tenure as Principal of the Alathur SN College that he took the lead in planting more than 15,000 teak saplings at the campus with Central Government aid. These saplings are now growing into sturdy trees and has proved to be an asset of the SN Trust which manages the SN Colleges.

He had also taken the lead in establishing educational institutions like the Sree Narayana Public School, the Sree Narayana College of Technology, the Sree Buddha Central School and the Sree Buddha College of Engineering. He is also the current vice-president of the Kerala State CBSE Schools Management Association. A grand send-off has been arranged in his honour at the SN College here on May 31.
