According to a Royal Palace communiqué, Hillary is believed to be the first foreign national to be so honoured, the bestowal was for Sir Edmund's first climb of Mt. Everest and his ``invaluable contributions to Nepal in the fields of health and education.'' Hillary, for whom Nepal has become a second home, set up a number of schools and medical centres in the foothills of the Mt. Everest that helped a large number of people, mostly Sherpas. The citation said Hillary had contributed immensely to Nepal's social and economic development and striven untiringly in projecting Nepal's positive image in the international fora. The Prime Minister of Nepal, Lokendra Bahadur Chand, handed over the legal documents and citizenship papers to the veteran Everest hero at a function here on Thursday. UNI
