Modest performances on opening day

CHENNAI MAY 30. Moderate performances in hot and humid conditions marked the opening day's proceedings in the 30th Tamil Nadu State sub-junior and junior Delphi TVS swimming meet at the Velachery pool on Friday.

With the age classification changed for the four Groups, each winner's performance became a new record. At least a few like R. Santosh Kumar (GAC) and Mridula Rajiv (Indu), both in Group I, Sushant Krishna (Indu) in Group II, A.A. Sarojini Devi (Sakthi) in Group III and K. Nandhakumar (League) and M.M. Venpa (Bloo Spo), both from Group IV, had something to cheer about with two gold medals each.

Earlier, the meet was inaugurated by Mr. N. Ravi, Editor, The Hindu.
