Govt. schools record better performance

Pondicherry May 30. The government schools in the Union Territory recorded better performance this year in the SSLC public examination results of which were released today. The pass percentage this year was 70.92 per cent against 66.48 per cent registered last year.

Briefing presspersons, the Education Minister, K. Lakshminarayanan, said today that of the 9,006 students from 87 government schools in Pondicherry and Karaikal regions appeared for the exam, 6,387 came out successful.

M. Ilavel, a student of the privately-managed Amalorpavam HSS, emerged the first ranker by scoring 494 out of 500.

R. Sivasubramanian of Vivekananda HSS at Sellaperumalpet got the second rank with 493 marks. Jestin Elias Ninan of Amalorpavam HSS secured the third place with 491 marks.

A total of 166 (both government and privately-managed institutions) sponsored 12,993 students (both boys and girls). With 10,241 students emerging victorious, a pass percentage of 78.82 had been recorded by the institutions in Pondicherry and Karaikal, which adopt the Tamil Nadu Secondary Education Board's curriculum.

Three government high schools at Reddiarpalayam, Koodapakkam and Korkadu recorded cent per cent pass and they would be handed over Rs. 1 lakh each under a prize scheme of the Education department.

The Minister said the Government High School at Veerampattinam and another school at Kurumbakaram, with more than 90 per cent pass each, would also be given the money under the scheme.

97.76 p.c. pass in Matriculation exam

The Minister said that in the Matriculation Examination held recently and results of which were also released today, a total of 984 students (from both government and private schools) appeared for the examination and 962 came out successful, recording 97.76 per cent result.

The St. Patrick HSS at Saradambal Nagar, Sri Sankara Vidyalaya (ECR Road), Sri Sankara Vidyashram HSS at Odiempet and the Alpha Matriuclation School in Mangalakshmi Nagar recorded cent per cent pass each in the matriculation examination.

A. Athirai of St Joseph of Cluny Girls HSS at Lawspet has notched the first rank at the Pondicherry State level in Matriculation by scoring 1060 out of 1100 marks.

A. Anubhav Mohanty of St Patrick HSS and S Sandhya of the same school are the second and third rankers with 1054 and 1041 marks respectively.
