June 6 last date for applying for re-totalling

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI May 30. Candidates who have got their results for standard X examinations under the SSLC/OSLC/Matriculation and Anglo-Indian stream can apply for re-totalling of marks before June 6.

The applications will be issued in the offices of the CEO/DEO and the Regional Joint Directorates of Government Examinations from June 2 to 6, according to the Director of Government Examinations, C. Palanivelu. The re-totalling charges will be Rs.200 for each subject and Rs. 300 for subjects with two papers.

As for the special supplementary examinations to be held from June 25, candidates who failed in one, two or three subjects can apply between June 11 and June 14. The applications should be submitted by hand to the offices of the CEOs and not by any other means, he said.

Addressing mediapersons, Dr. Palanivelu said mark statements, from this year, would contain special security features to avoid circulation of `fake certificates'. In respect of private candidates, he said, the headmaster of the school/centre, from which the candidate secures the certificate, would make an endorsement that the certificate had been issued by the school concerned.

Asked whether there was a fall in standards in city schools as the toppers mostly were from the other districts, Dr. Palanivelu said in the past two decades, students from Virudhunagar and Tirunelveli `educational districts' always came out on top. Still, he said, the department only released the results and the attempts to find the reasons for improvements or otherwise in the students' performance would come only later. "We will do the analysis and make suitable suggestions to the School Education directorates," he added.
