Punjab CM's kin murdered in Shimla

By Our Staff Correspondent

SHIMLA MAY 30. Parmesh Kaur, a 45-year-old woman reportedly related to the Punjab Chief Minister, Amarinder Singh, was allegedly murdered by one of her managers, Dhiren Walia, here early today.

The two had come to Shimla along with another couple, Jaidev and Nisha, from Delhi and checked into the Punjab Government's Cedar Wood guest house on May 24. The guest house, which faces Oak Over, official residence of the Himachal Chief Minister, falls in the high-security zone here.

According to police sources, the two couples who had come from Delhi as tourists were regular visitors to The Mall here in the evenings. Last night they were seen sitting in Davicos bar. They came back around midnight and told the guest house attendant to make some food for them. Over drinks there was some altercation between Dhiren and Parmesh and the former allegedly shot her in the temple at around 3-20 a.m. She died on the spot.

Jaidev and Nisha informed the chowkidar who in turn informed the police. Thirtythree-year-old Dhiren, who fled in his car, a Bolero (DLC-A1-8975), was nabbed by the police at Kandaghat, 30 km from Shimla, at 4 a.m., according to the Shimla SP.

The police said that Dhiren, who is suspected to have killed Parmesh with his .32-bore licensed revolver, was under the influence of liquor. The revolver and five unused cartridges along with 16 other live cartridges have been recovered by the police.

The body has been sent for post-mortem.

Parmesh Kaur, belonging to the royal family of Patiala, was earlier married to Ajay Bahadur Singh, a former MLA and a royal from Nahan in Himachal. She had left Nahan some years ago and was staying with her daughter in Shanti Farm House at Chhattarpur in Delhi, according to her family.
