Palani, an office bearer of the M.G.Nagar Exnora near Taramani, sustained severe injuries below his left eye after he was attacked by three persons, when he questioned a group of women who had allegedly beaten his elder daughter, while she was filling water from a Metrowater tanker on Wednesday evening. Even as he was taking his daughter back to his house, three persons rushed from their houses and assaulted Palani with wooden clubs. He received deep cut injuries below his eye and was admitted to the Government Eye Hospital in Egmore. Doctors feared that his vision would be affected badly. Meanwhile personnel of the Velachery police station said cases had been registered against three persons, who were later arrested. The incident comes in the wake of increasing tension in different parts of the city over water supply. His neighbours and office bearers of civic associations in the locality said Palani had been taking up public causes along with other volunteers and allege that the attack was planned and that the skirmish on Wednesday was only an excuse.
