Mr. Salian said it was essential to strengthen the Congress at the block, booth, and village-level. Workers should propagate the achievements of the State Government and highlight the failures of the Union Government to the people. They should work to fulfil the aspirations of the people, he said. The MP, Vinaykumar Sorake, said though the Union Government claimed it was being driven by a "swadeshi" policy, the fact remained that it was influenced "videshi" (foreign) forces. The policies of the Union Government had resulted in social insecurity. They had destroyed the secular fabric of the country. The farmers were reeling under the impact of price crash, and the poor had no one to turn to. The beedi industry was worst hit due to the "inaction" of the Union Government. Mr. Sorake said a separate telecom district should be created for Udupi. There was no point in the Union Minister of Telecommunications coming to Udupi to inaugurate the Telecom Office building in Udupi. If a separate telecom district was not announced, the Congress workers would wave black flags at the minister, he said.
