Scholarships for excellence

The Basic Research, Education and Development (BREAD) has decided to extend, during the current year, its scholarship programme to all undergraduate and vocational courses hitherto not covered. So far, BREAD, in collaboration with the North South Foundation (NSF) of the United States, has awarded over 1,800 scholarships to more than 500 exceptionally qualified and needy students for pursuing professional education in medicine/engineering and vocational education in polytechnic in the last 13 years. Bread Chapters are spread over 10 Indian States.

For the 2003-04 academic year, BREAD invites applications for financial assistance from those students who had excelled in public test, but cannot afford to pursue further. The qualifying criteria are: a) family income of less than Rs.48,000, b) top 5 per cent ranks in Common Entrance Tests or 85 per cent marks in Intermediate or equivalent examination with relaxation of 5 per cent to rural and girl students in ranks/percentages, c) rank of first attempt only, d) coming from government or government aided schools, e) only first year students in the course of study chosen, f) students eligible for other scholarships will not normally be eligible for BREAD scholarships and g) short listed candidates will be interviewed for final selection.

Application forms for Tamil Nadu could be had from Mr. S. Vasudevan, BREAD, #4, New Beach Road, Thiruvalluvar Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai - 600 041 by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope with rank card of CET or marks sheet of Intermediate or equivalent examination held this year.
