Anil Biswas dead

New Delhi May 31. Renowned music director of Bollywood, Anil Biswas, died here today.

He was 89.

Mr. Biswas, or Anil-Da as he was popularly known, is survived by his wife and singer, Meena Kapoor, two sons and a daughter.

Born in Banisal (now in Bangladesh) on July 7, 1914, Anil-da made his debut in the film industry in 1934, beginning with hits like Aaj Himalaya ki choti se fir humne lalkara hai, Door hato aie dooniya waalo Hindustan hamara hai, and Dheere dheere aare badal, mera bulbul so raha hai, shorgul na macha sung by the late actor, Ashok Kumar in Kismet in 1943.

Anil-da gave a break to many singers, including Talat Mahmood, Mukesh and Lata Mangeshkar. — UNI
