`Panel's aim is to pave way for discussions'

By Our Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE MAY 31. The Public Works Minister and a member of the Cabinet sub-committee to deal with restoration of peace at Marad, M.K. Muneer, today said that the main aim of the sub-committee was to pave the way for discussions of all parties concerned.

Talking to reporters here, Dr. Muneer said that at first talks were held with officials. The next step was trying to create a one-to-one dialogue with the parties concerned. "I am optimistic.

There are many emotional problems involved in the matter. We will try to bring all parties around a table."

He observed that the various parties were not able to sit together after the Marad massacre. "They are issuing statements contradicting one another without coming around a table."

Asked about the statement by the Araya Samajam office-bearers that they would not cooperate with the Cabinet sub-committee, Dr. Muneer said the committee would enquire about their difficulties in holding talks. "The Government would try its best to resolve their difficulties. Their misunderstandings would be cleared by holding talks with them," he said.
