No fresh admission to IHRD engg. college

By Our Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA May 31. The Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD) has decided not to go in for fresh admissions this year at its engineering college at Kallooppara on the basis of a High Court directive in this regard.

The IHRD director told The Hindu that the Kallooppara engineering college did not have the recognition of the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The IHRD had started the engineering college in a rented building at Kalloppara without obtaining the AICTE's sanction. The IHRD could complete the land acquisition only a few months ago and the college complex is yet to be completed.

Disposing a petition filed by the parents of a few students, the Kerala High

Court had directed the IHRD to transfer the students to its three other engineering colleges with AICTE recognition. However, the IHRD director said that the institute was yet to take a decision on the transfer of the remaining students to its other three colleges this year. He said that the IHRD would apply for AICTE sanction for the Kalloppara engineering college once the college building is completed.
