Krishna non-committal on return to politics

By Our Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA MAY 31. Veteran film star and former Congress MP, G. Krishna, admitted that `a gap existed' between him and the party after the death of the former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi.

Though the party is headed by Sonia Gandhi, he could not share the same rapport with her, as he used to with Rajiv Gandhi, Krishna stated.

Mr. Krishna who was earlier elected from the Eluru Parliamentary constituency in 1989 on the Congress ticket has been in political hibernation, after the death of Rajiv Gandhi.

In an informal conversation with reporters here on Saturday, Krishna who participated in a series of programmes in the city, however, kept everyone guessing about his next move, by deftly replying in one-liners.

Asked whether the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, attending the 100-day celebrations of Mahesh Babu's `Okkadu' film, had any political connotations, the actor felt that no political significance could be attached to the function.

``Mr. Krishnam Raju (the Union Minister of State) of the BJP, Mr. Dasari Narayana Rao of the Congress have also been invited, so you need not see any political angle in it,'' he said amidst laughter.

Asked whether he has quit politics forever, the actor quipped, "I have never said that'', indicating that he kept his options still open.
