Suu Kyi in custody

YANGON MAY 31. Myanmar's ruling military today said it had taken Opposition leader, Aung San Suu Kyi and 17 top members of her party into ``protective custody'' after clashes between her supporters and opponents in the north of the country.

Brigadier General Than Tun told reporters that Suu Kyi, released from house arrest only a year ago amid intense international pressure, was being held in the town of Yaway Oo, about 560 km north of the capital. — Reuters
