Letters to the Editor
Sir, This is with reference to the recent judgment of the Delhi High Court pertaining to the Dowry Act. This has created heartburns in women. At the outset is it mandatory that husbands ought to be punished? What if the woman gives a fake complaint for dowry harassment?
S.S. Venkatasubramanian,
* * * Sir, This is with reference to Rajeev Dhavan's article "Nisha's law" ( May 30 ). Dowry cases in India are becoming common. The law exists on paper, but is deficient when it comes to implementation. The Dowry Prohibition Act, which failed, should be reinstated. It should include rigorous punishment and compensation for victims. High-profile police officers and judges should take up such cases in a separate court.
Vedula Krishna,
