Letters to the Editor
Sir, Apropos `Strike hits Left-ruled States' ( May 22 ), the original inspiration for a bandh was a proletariat revolution whereby the bourgeoisie was to be defeated and the working class installed in its place. The higher the production loss, the nearer would it bring the proletariat towards victory. Marxism having taken birth in Europe, it was presumed that proletariat meant workers in the organised sector. The rest of the society was either bourgeois or petite bourgeois, landlords or peasants, none of whom was considered a true soldier of the revolution. If, therefore, they suffered it brought the revolution nearer fruition. The communist needle has got stuck on the old record of the Marxist gramophone. That communism has died in Europe, that India including West Bengal, is moving towards liberalisation is overlooked. Sad, is it not?
