Day temperatures in these districts were at peak levels making life miserable at some places. Vijayawada recorded the highest temperature for the day at 47 degree Celsius. Three other districts -- Prakasam, Mahabubnagar and Karimanagar -- also experienced heatwave conditions. The State Met Office today issued a fresh heatwave warning to all these districts, valid for two more days. During the 24-hour period ended this morning, maximum temperatures were above normal at many places in the State. Meanwhile, the toll in the heatwave climbed up to 1,209 today. East Godavari district with 199 deaths wrested the first place from Nalgonda (192). West Godavari came next with 196 deaths. Guntur reported an additional 46 deaths, taking the total to 184. The Hyderabad (Urban) district saw three more fatalities and with that, the tally of the Twin Cities touched the 8 mark. The break-up of other districts, given by the Commissioner for Relief and Rehabilitation, D. C. Rosaiah, is as follows: Srikakluam 3, Visakhapatnam 27, Krishna 66, Prakasam 98, Nellore 31, Chittoor 42, Kurnool 15, Mahabubnagar, Ranga Reddy each five, Adilabad 20, Karimnagar 41, Warangal 50 and Khammam 22.
