SRINAGAR JUNE 5. A 100-year-old building in the Secretariat near the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly was partially gutted this evening.

The building, housing the Accountancy Training Institute and the office of the Accounts Employees Association, caught fire — believed to be accidental — at around 6.55 p.m., official sources Said.

As many as 15 fire tenders from the nearby fire services headquarters reached the high security complex and doused the flames within an hour, they said.

The sources said five fire services personnel were slightly injured while fighting the fire. While two of them got injured due to a flying tin sheet after the roof of the building caved in, three others suffered suffocation during the fire-fight.

The exact damage to the building was not known immediately.
