Presiding over the second and fourth ZP standing committee meetings here, he said every poor person should benefit under the Velugu scheme, without political considerations. The chairman and the ZPTC members, Basha, Chalamaiah Yadav and Siddhaiah, stressed the need for blood banks in each of the three revenue divisions to save the lives of accident victims. The meeting adopted a resolution to utilise Rs. 5 crores, expected to be released soon, for constructing additional classrooms in upper primary schools through DPEP and construct 860 more toilets in schools. The Velugu project director, Viziendira, said the scheme was being implemented in 42 mandals in the district. An ongoing survey to identify the poor would be completed by Sunday and they would be assisted above political lines, she said. The assistant project director of DPEP, E.N. Srinivasulu, said 23 new watersheds were sanctioned with NABARD assistance of Rs. 9 crores in addition to 358 existing watersheds in the district.
