Plea to extend trains up to Nizamabad

By Our Staff Reporter

NIZAMABAD JUNE 5. The Nizamabad MP, Gaddam Ganga Reddy, on Thursday said that he had urged railway officials to extend the Nanded-Amritsar Sachkhan Express, the Nanded-Mumbai Tapovan Express, the Mudkhed-Manmad Marathawada Express and the the Nanded-Daund passenger up to Nizamabad consequent to the completion of the gauge works.

Addressing a press conference here this evening after launching the SitiCable network, Mr. Ganga Reddy said the officials responded positively and assured that the trains would be extended in due course. He said the throwing open of the BG line facilitated a new route to Mumbai.

Referring to the laying of the new BG line between Nizamabad and Metpalli in Karimnagar district, Mr. Ganga Reddy said the survey was completed up to a distance of 50 km. He said Rs. 5 crores was released by the Government in the current budget year to take up the works. He said an additional Rs. 10 crores should be allocated to expedite the works.

On the ongoing Nizamabad-Bollarum gauge works, he said, going by the pace of the work, the line would be completed by 2005. Barring strengthening of major bridges, all other works were nearing completion.

On the Guthpa-Alisagar lift irrigation scheme, the MP said he had urged the Chief Minister to allocate sufficient funds and at least complete one major pipeline of the scheme to benefit the farmers.

Earlier, he launched the Siti Cable network services. The Siti Cable, which had closed its service, was acquired by Srinivas Reddy, son of the MP, under the banner of Ganga Communications.

Among others, the TDP district chief, Arikela Narsa Reddy, the former TDP chief, Akula Shankar, and the District Collector, G.Asok Kumar, were present.
