Villagers thrash robbers

By Our Staff Reporter

NIZAMABAD JUNE 5. In a daring act, the residents of Kurla village in Madhnoor mandal caught hold of two robbers and gave them a sound thrashing before handing them over to the local police.

According to reports reaching here, a four-member robber gang came in an autorickshaw to the village and woke up Mathili Sailoo and Lalaiah. Threatening them with a country-made weapon, the culprits sought direction to the house of an RMP, Vadla Rajender.

As the duo refused to show them the way, the robbers assaulted and forced them to oblige. The offenders then asked Mr. Rajender to part with Rs. 2 lakhs and threatened him with dire consequences if he did not pay up.

Meanwhile, some villagers and members of the village youth association, who were on night patrolling, came that way on hearing the commotion. On seeing them, the robbers fired three rounds, injuring three persons -- Bharati, Rajappa and Hanmanthu. Two others sustained injuries when they were attacked with swords.

The enraged villagers then retaliated and attacked the robbers. They managed to catch two of them -- Chinna of Kodicherla in Kotgir mandal and Sayanna of Jadi Jamalpur of Bodhan mandal. They were badly beaten and their limbs broken. Two other robbers offenders -- Sailoo and Voddenna of Bodhan mandal -- managed to escape in the cover of darkness.

The culprits were brought to the village centre and interrogated. The robbers confessed that they were summoned by Degari Shankar and Hanmanthu of Kurla village to burgle the house of the RMP. The villagers then brought Shankar and Hanmanthu and beat them up severely before handing them over to the Madhnoor police. The Madhnoor SI, Srinivas, registered a case.
