'No request from India to overfly Pak. territory'

By Our Diplomatic Correspondent

NEW DELHI June 6. Pakistan tonight made it clear that it had received no request from India for the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee's aircraft to overfly Pakistani territory while on his way to Germany on May 27.

Responding to a report in a local newspaper today that "overflight" permission had been denied, the Pakistan High Commission described it as "tendentious reportage".

``The High Commission regrets that at this nascent stage of the peace process, a section of the media is indulging in such an irresponsible and baseless disinformation campaign,'' a statement from the Pakistani mission said.

"The Government of Pakistan never received any request from the Government of India seeking permission for Prime Minister Vajpayee's aircraft to overfly Pakistan territory for his three-nation visit to Europe."

"If the Indian side had made any such request, it would have received a positive response from the Government of Pakistan,'' the statement added.
