RLD leader quits party

LUCKNOW JUNE 7. The Rashtriya Lok Dal, campaigning for dislodging the Mayawati Government in Uttar Pradesh, received a jolt today when its vice-president, Rameshwar Singh, resigned from the party and floated the Lok Dal (Charan Singh).

At a hurriedly-called press conference, Mr. Singh said he was leaving the party in protest against the ``autocratic style of functioning and favouritism'' of its chief, Ajit Singh.

He claimed that all RLD legislators were with him and said he supported the Mayawati Government.
