Bopanna loses

NEW DELHI JUNE 7. Rohan Bopanna went down 4-6, 6-7 (3-7) to Giovanni Lapentti of Ecuador in the first qualifying round of the 800,000 Euros Stella Artois Queen's Club tennis tournament in London on Saturday.

``I had two setpoints on his serve in the tenth game. I hit the net chord with a return and missed a forehand in the alley on the next,'' recounted Bopanna, when contacted.

It was indeed a tough draw for Bopanna who was recovering from an arm injury, as his 20-year-old opponent has had a good season, beating the likes of Marcelo Rios and Paradorn Srichaphan. He had also won the Salinas Challenger back home recently.

``I will play the qualifying event of the Nottingham tournament next, and sign in for the Wimbledon qualifying event thereafter and hope to get in,'' said Bopanna, who played a good tournament in winning three rounds in the qualifying event of the Surbiton Challenger, before retiring midway through the second set of the first round with an injury, last week.
