This Day That Age
Dr. K. N. Kesari, Ayurvedic doctor and philanthropist, died at his residence in Westcott Road, Royapettah on the 8th. He was 77, and was survived by his wife and daughter. Having had his early education in Guntur, he continued his studies in Madras. Learning Ayurveda, he worked along with Pandit D. Gopalacharlu in the Ayurvedic Hospital of the Kanyaka Parameswari Trust. In 1900, he started Kesari Kuteeram and made it a leading concern manufacturing, Ayurvedic medicines. Keenly interested in women's education, in 1926 he started Grihalakshmi, a Telugu monthly. Every year a bracelet, "Grihalakshmi Swarna Kankanam", was awarded by him to a lady for outstanding service to literature. Dr. Kesari took over in 1943 the Mylapore Telugu Elementary School and raised it to the status of a High School in 1945. Besides gifting a large building for the school, he gave it Rs. 50,000. In 1947, he donated rupees one lakh for the founding and maintaining the Kesari Kanya Vidyalayam.
