The plant to be built in Bangladesh would be constructed on a turnkey basis at Chhatak near Sylhet town in Bangladesh and is expected to be commissioned by October 2005. The limestone for the production of cement would be supplied from the Indian state of Meghalaya. According to a release, L&T won the order against stiff competition from international bidders. The technology supplier for the project will be F L Smidth and Company of Denmark with whom the Indian firm has a relationship for the past four decades. So far, L&T has supplied cement plant machinery equivalent to 42 million tonnes of production capacity on ordinary portland cement basis. UNI
