The special Judge, Prem Kumar, today served notice to Mr. Solanki returnable on July 29 for allegedly misleading Swiss authorities and influencing them not to provide any information to the CBI on the Bofors gun deal. Meanwhile, the same court rejected the bail application of the transfer scam accused and senior Income Tax official, Anurag Vardhan. Mr. Vardhan had filed a bail petition in a City Court with the plea that he did not bribe Perumal Swamy, the private assistant of the former Union Minister of State, Gingee N. Ramachandran, while seeking a transfer from Delhi to Mumbai. Special Judge, Prem Kumar, had directed the CBI to file a reply to the application and posted it for hearing on June 10. A commission of offence had been registered under section 120 (b) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 7, 8, 9 10, 12, 13 (1)(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act against Mr. Vardhan, Mr. Krishnamurthy, Mr. Swamy, Mr. Padmanaban and other officials in the Union Ministry of Finance for bribery, corruption and criminal conspiracy.
