Talhan violence: Jalandhar police officers replaced

Chandigarh June 9. The Punjab Government today ordered a major shake up of the police administration in Jalandhar by replacing both the District police chief and DIG in a damage control exercise in the aftermath of caste violence in Talhan and other parts of the Jalandhar city.

The Jalandhar SSP, Varinder Kumar, has been replaced by the Ludhiana SSP, Harpreet Singh Sidhu, while the Jalandhar range DIG, Rohit Choudhary, was ordered to handover the charge to Dinkar Gupta. All replaced officers have been directed to report to the DGP and their posting orders would be issued later, the spokesman added. J.P. Birdi, IGP-PAP, Jalandhar, would now also hold the additional charge of IGP (zonal-I), Jalandhar, vice S.K. Sharma, who is ``on leave''.

Pawan Kumar Uppal, SP-PAP, Jalandhar, and Gurmeet Singh, SP (headqauarter), Hoshiarpur, have been posted as SP (city-II), Jalandhar, and SP (operations) Jalandhar, in place of Rakesh Kaushal and Darshanjit Singh Dhindsa respectively. Meanwhile, the Amritsar SSP, Narinder Pal Singh, has been posted as SSP, Ludhiana, in place of Sidhu, while Kultar Singh, Commandant 13th Battlion-PAP, Chandigarh, is the new Amritsar SSP, the spokesman said. — UNI
