Kolkata Corporation Commissioner assaulted

By Our Special Correspondent

KOLKATA JUNE 9. Some members of the Mayor-in-Council (MIC) of the Trinamool Congress-BJP controlled Kolkata Municipal Corporation today assaulted the Commissioner, Debashish Som, demanding the withdrawal of a circular issued by him.

Tension ran high when Mr. Som issued a circular a few days ago stating he would work only under the directive of the Mayor, Subrata Mukherjee, and not under any MIC. The MICs were upset over the circular and today barged into Mr. Som's chamber and demanded that he withdraw it.

The Commissionerrefused to give in. The MICs then assaulted him. An embarrassed Mayor held an emergency meeting in his chamber but declined to comment.
