Culverts to be completed in five months: Minister

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM June 9. The reconstruction of the culvert at Thampanoor will be completed in five months, the Public Works Minister, M.K. Muneer, announced here today.

Participating in a Meet-the-Minister programme organised by the Thiruvananthapuram Press Club and the Department of Public Relations, he said the development of the Karamana-Killipalam Road would be completed by March next year while the railway overbridge at Chackai was expected to be completed by September this year.

The Minister said the PWD had identified 11 roads for the Rs.135-crore Capital City Development Project. These included the LMS- Kowdiar, LMS- Attakulangara, Museum- Nandavanam- Bakery- Panavila- Aristo- Thampanoor- Overbridge, Bakery- Palayam- Pattoor- Pettah- Chackai- Airport, Pattoor- Vanchiyoor- Uppidamoodu- Pazhavangady- Power House, Nalumukku- Sreekanteswaram- Melepazhavangady- Power House- Choorakattupalayam, Vanross- Oottukuzhy- Press Club- Secretariat, Pattom- Marappalam- Kuravankonam- Kowdiar, Pattom- Pottakuzhy- Murinhapalam- Medical College- Ulloor, Kowdiar- Ambalamukku- Peroorkada- Vazhayila and Vellayambalam- Sasthamangalam roads.

Two major grade separator flyovers will be constructed at the Bakery Junction and Thakarapparambu while a subway will be built at Palayam. Dr. Muneer said the Attakulangara- Sreevarahom- Eenchakkal, Thakarapparambu- SP Fort- West Fort- Bypass junction and the GG Hospital- Kumarapuram- Venpalavattom- NH bypass junction routes would be developed as link roads to the NH bypass.

Some of the other projects to be taken up include the development of the Gandhi Park road at East Fort, the All Saints- Veli tourist village road, car parking facilities at the Veli tourist village and the Kinfra- Amusement Park road. The road from the Kovalam Junction to the old ITDC Junction will be developed as a tourism road.
