Five youths arrested, 22 four-wheelers recovered

BANGALORE June 10. Kalasipalyam police have arrested Dadu, Bharath, Sheikh Hussein, (all 22), Afzal (24), and Aslam (25), residents of Valmikinagar, and recovered 22 four-wheelers, including a tipper lorry, 17 mini-trucks, and three vans. The total value of the stolen vehicles is about Rs. 1 crore.

According to police, the accused used to steal vehicles, change their colours, fabricate "no-objection certificates for change of registration" to show that the vehicles were from outside Karnataka, and get them registered with new numbers at RTOs in Kormangala and KGF.

The stolen vehicles were sold in Hubli, Dharwad, Gangavati, Koppal, Nandur, Hospet, Bagalkot, Yellapur, Kanapur, Belgaum, and Kunigal in Karnataka; Kolhapur, Padangav, and Sathara in Maharashtra; and, Kaveripatnam in Tamil Nadu. Police said seven of the vehicles had been identified by their owners.

Robbery

An employee of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Vijaykumar Sahu (26), was robbed of Rs. 1,000 in cash and a wristwatch at knifepoint by a four-member gang in Madiwala police station limits in the early hours of Tuesday.

Police said Mr. Sahu was returning to his residence in Koramangala at about 12.30 a.m. when the gang members stopped him. They threatened him with a knife and forced him to part with the cash and the wristwatch. Madiwala police have registered a case.

Student arrested

An engineering graduate, Raghavendra (24), was arrested by Commercial Street police for allegedly stealing computers and computer spare parts from an office of the Income-Tax Department on Commercial Street, where he was employed on daily wages.

Four computers, four CPUs, and a printer, in all worth about Rs. 1.6 lakh, were reportedly seized from him.

Raghavendra allegedly stole the goods from the office storeroom, and took them away in an autorickshaw.

Car stereos seized

Peenya police have arrested Lokesh alias Loki (21), and recovered car stereos and three bicycles, in all worth about Rs. 15,000. The goods were allegedly stolen from Peenya police limits. He was arrested earlier in connection with thefts reported from Subramanyanagar, Yeshwantpur, Mahalakshmipuram, and Peenya police limits.
