Monsoon yet to pick up in southern Kerala

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM JUNE 12. The southern districts of Kerala, yet to get their quota of monsoon showers, will have to wait for at least two days more to get good showers.

According to the Met Director, Ramachandran, the first phase of the monsoon, which set in on June 8 and left Kerala two days later, covered only the northern districts. Even though there were `trace' showers today in the city, the amount of rain that fell was too minimal to be measured by the Met centre, here.

Even though the monsoon is officially on, the southern districts are likely to get strong showers only in about a couple of days time. ``At present, the indications are favourable for heavy showers in another two days,'' Mr. Ramachandran said.

As expected the first spell of monsoon showers were weak, he added.
