Bharti launches international data services

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI JUNE 12. Bharti today announced the launch of international data services using the Network i2i submarine cable as the primary infrastructure backbone.

One of the largest infrastructure projects between Indian and Singaporean companies, the services have been launched by the broadband and data group of Bharti.

The launch comes close on the heels of Network i2i receiving the mandatory security clearances recently. The 3,200 km, i2i cable network is the world's largest capacity undersea cable project, which supports a bandwidth of up to 8.4 tbps and is a 50:50 joint venture between Bharti and SingTel. Bharti has already launched voice services on the cable as the security clearances were received earlier.

The Broadband & Data Group of Bharti, riding on Network i2i's next generation cable system, is aiming at capturing market leadership in global data and Internet market within the first year of its operation.

Speaking on the occasion Ashok Juneja, Chief Executive Officer, Bharti Data and Broadband Group, said, "We are opening a new, reliable, high capacity route from India, putting an end to frequent outages, network risk and high cost. With the launch of our international data services, customers can now for the first time place the entire order on a single organisation, that is Bharti, and thereby be sure to have their links implemented quickly, efficiently and flawlessly.''
