Azad flays TDP for `misrule'

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD June 13. The in charge of AP Congress affairs and Congress Working Committee member, Ghulam Nabi Azad, has asked the TD Government to explain its failure in developing proper infrastructure in the State despite borrowing Rs. 57,000 crores from various international agencies and from the World Bank.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday on his first visit after assuming charge of the party affairs, Mr. Azad said both the State and the Central Governments failed in alleviating the misery of people. The State Government could not even respond humanely to the 1,500 heatwave deaths this summer, he said demanding adequate compensation to the victims' families.

Mr. Azad said AP ranked 24th in providing employment opportunities in the country and no new irrigation project had come up. Borrowed money was being spent on non-productive investment and no new industry had come up under TD rule.

The Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, boasted of international connections and staked claim to having provided a hi-tech Government but the ground reality was that the State lagged behind in several parameters compared to other Congress-ruled States.
