Answering questions from newsmen after attending a meeting of State office-bearers of the BJP here on Friday, Mr. Ganesan said the consensus was around `one candidate' but he was not authorised to reveal his name. He also said the choice of the candidate was almost over. Mr. Ganesan's remarks could be read juxtaposed to another statement last week by BJP State Legislature Party leader, N. Indrasena Reddy, that all office-bearers of State BJP had suggested the name of Mr. Dattatreya for the post to the core committee which was appointed to select the candidate. Incidentally, Mr. Ganesan is a nominee of the Central leadership on the committee as in-charge of State party affairs. Mr. Ganesan also said that the election of the State president was likely to be held around September 15. The State party had indicated to the Central leadership its readiness to go ahead with the election and it could be held ideally in the second or third week of September. On the preparations of the BJP for next year's elections, Mr. Ganesan said the party was geared up to face them even if they were to be advanced. The BJP will try to increase its tally of MPs from the State to `double digit'. The party would appoint activists to work as full-time `chunav sahayaks' (election assistants) in all 42 Lok Sabha and 294 Assembly constituencies in the State.
