Ghulam Nabi Azad warns Cong. dissidents

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD JUNE 13. The AICC general secretary in charge of party affairs in Andhra Pradesh, Ghulam Nabi Azad, has warned dissidents of serious action if they do not mend their ways. Only a united party can successfully take on the Telugu Desam Party in the next elections, he said, reminding party leaders of the need to be accountable to the party and implement its programmes sincerely.

Mr. Azad, who arrived here on Friday to interact with leaders and functionaries and assess the party position, said that his assessment, coupled with the local leaders' opinion, would make it easier for the party to win in the next elections. He congratulated the PCC president, M. Satyanarayana Rao, for `the excellent work' done during his tenure and brushed aside suggestions of any change of the PCC leadership.

He snubbed those trying to paint the CLP leader's padayatra a `five-star affair' by adding `what star facilities are available in villages.' Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy is channelising the energies of workers in favour of the party by undertaking an immensely popular padayatra. Due to slight indisposition I could not join it. More such programmes are needed.''Workers owing allegiance to P. Janardhan Reddy raised slogans seeking the removal of the PCC chief.

A group of Youth Congress activists sought the removal of the wing's president, T. Venkat Rao. There was yet another group demanding action against the Minority Cell chief while one more section was in favour of the removal of the Seva Dal chief.

There was slogan shouting and jostling by some groups to draw his attention to their demands.
