Chauvinist politics

Sir, — Apropos the news `Another Sena campaign, more confusion' ( June 7 ): the Shiv Sena speaking in two voices over the issue of its Ms. Mumbaikar programme and its plan to restrict Mumbai to Mumbaikars betrays its increasing indulgence in chauvinist politics.

The Sena is fanatically xenophobic, opposed to an alien influence and a pluralistic society. Their hate campaign against the non-Hindus comes in handy whenever the party runs out of political steam.

These separatist tendencies have become our scourge and almost ruined our national unity and social integrity. Should the country tolerate such extremists?

Democracy has nothing to lose if they are asked to back off with their exclusive demands and quit the political scene.

R.R.Sami,
Tiruvannamalai, T.N.
