Letters to the Editor
Sir, It is strange that the Coal India Ltd. has fixed the sale price of coal at a ludicrously low Rs. 20 per tonne i.e. two paise per kilo (June 6). Just because it is available in abundance it should not be sold at such a throwaway price. Unless a remunerative and respectable price is fixed, it would result in the depletion of coalmines early. Coal and mineral ores are nature's gift to mankind. We should use them economically and leave something for the future. Otherwise, our posterity will suffer.
S. Kuppuswamy,
