Sir, The article `The task of repackaging the BJP' ( June 11 ) by Harish Khare: It is no surprise that he detects ``confusion within the BJP'' and advises the party to move beyond the Vajpayee-Advani age. But what needs to be noted is that if the Congress is substituted for the BJP the article still is apt! Because the malaise pointed out by the author is not confined to one party but has affected all political parties both national and regional. "If five years of office and its temptations are enough to make sinners out of most saints," as the author contends, then the Congress, having tasted power for 45 years and more, must be sinners beyond redemption. The party cannot look beyond the Nehru-Gandhi family for leadership. It cannot grow out of its mindset of not being in power and refuses to function as a responsible Opposition party.
