Ex-U.P. Minister fails to appear for questioning

By J.P. Shukla

LUCKNOW JUNE 16. The former Uttar Pradesh Minister, Amar Mani Tripathi, today failed to appear before the crime branch of the State CID for being questioned in the poetess Madhumita Shukla murder case.

The investigating agency had issued summons to Mr. Tripathi and his wife to appear before it today for investigations into the murder of the young poetess in Lucknow last month. Investigating officers waited for them but they failed to turn up. The agency may take recourse to other legal means to make them cooperate. Madhumita's family had raised doubts about the couple's role in the murder and this led the Chief Minister, Mayawati, to drop Mr. Tripati from the Ministry.
