Tamil Nadu
By P.S. Suresh Kumar
It began with the publication of the general secretary, Kamal Nath's hint, in a section of the press, of a possible appointment of a new leader for the State Congress. (Later Mr. Kamal Nath ruled out any change in the leadership of the State unit.) Speaking to The Hindu at a guest house on the premises of a desalination plant at Narippayur here today, Mr. Balakrishnan said he had already sent a fax message to Ms. Gandhi seeking clarification on a few points. He would discuss all matters with her tomorrow. Asked about the points raised in his letter, he said the contents were confidential and not meant for the media. Later he left for Chennai, en route to New Delhi. The TNCC's working president, E.V.K.S. Elangovan, is already in New Delhi for discussions with the high command.
