Mr. Chidambaram was imagining that he would soon lead the Congress in the State with support from parties opposed to both the DMK, the AIADMK and from the actor, Rajnikanth. But this would remain a mere dream, as the Congress was bogged down by persistent leadership problem, Mr. Ganesan said. Existing realities suggest that alliances with either the DMK or AIADMK remained the key factor and the BJP's preparations took this aspect into consideration. However, he refused to divulge whether his party was getting close to the AIADMK. To a question on the DMK president seeking an enquiry into medical treatment for the Union Minister, Murasoli Maran, Mr. Ganesan said if there was prima facie case, the Centre should hold an enquiry. He denied that the BJP at any point of time betrayed the MDMK leader, Vaiko, arrested under the POTA.
