Kerala-Thiruvananthapuram
By Our Staff Reporter
The MLA alleged that it was nothing short of an anti-national act on the part of the State Government as well as the Kerala State Electricity Board to sideline the inspection report of the expert team from the Central Water Commission that had clearly pointed to certain serious problems affecting the stability of the two masonry dams. Mr. Abraham also said that the Government should take a decision whether to permit storage of water in the Anathode and Pampa reservoirs this year. He said that the failure of the dams would result in a catastrophe, affecting the life and property of scores of people, with the inundation of the villages and towns in the downstream areas in Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts. The MLA alleged criminal negligence on the part of the KSEB in ensuring proper maintenance of the dams despite the warnings of the expert team two-and-a-half years ago. Now, with the onset of monsoon, the inflow into the dams is on the rise and the Chief Minister and the Electricity Minister will be solely responsible, if something untoward happened, he said.
