Mufti apologises in Assembly

SRINAGAR JUNE 17. Asserting that the disclosures made by the Director General of Police regarding the ongoing investigation into the murder of the former Law Minister, Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, were not a policy matter, the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, today said: ``I regret and apologise to the House over the issue.'' Replying to a discussion on the issue in the State Assembly, he assured the members that investigations into the murder case would be fair and transparent. He said it was not right to paint the entire police force with the same brush in view of the involvement of some policemen in the case.

Referring to the arrest of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman, Mohammad Yasin Malik, last week, he said he had asked the police not to arrest any leader as long as they did not disturb the peace.
